Prof. Stefano Longhi (Mai 2009)

Stefano Longhi was born in 1967 and received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan in 1992. He got his PhD in Physics at the Polytechnic Institute of Turin three years later. He then joined the MIT and worked as a research scientist in the ultrafast optics group of Prof. E. Hippen and H.A. Haus, before becoming Assistant Professor of General Physics at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan in 1998. Since 2003 he is Associate Professor of Structure of matter at this Institute. His research interests range from laser physics to nonlinear and quantum optics.

Prof. Longhi has published more than 150 papers in peer-referred international journals and contributed to many international conferences in the field of optics and photonics. In 2003 he wars awarded with the Fresnel Prize of the European Physical Society in honour of his outstanding contributions in the fields of optics and photonics.

Prof. Longhi is Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and member of the Optical Society of America. In addition he is member of the editorial board of the Journal of Physics B.
