The Computer Vision Research Group Jena develops methods and algorithms, which allow for automatic analysis of images actively taken from a camera. Within the last 10 years of research, four key aspects emerged where the group is particularly interested in. Those areas are on the one hand applied computer vision and bio-medical image analysis, where the group develops innovative solutions in close co-operations with partners from industry as well as university partners from biological and medical institutes in Jena. In addition, the group works in several projects best described as image understanding, mostly reflecting current trends in the computer vision community. How to enable lifelong learning of machines is explored in the fourth main aspect.
